Adnottation. Oncological diseases often create emergencies in clinical status of patients caused by anatomical, metabolic and immunological disorders. Many situations can be managed positively only with the cooperation of a multidisciplinary well organized team of specialists. These complications occur as a result of the evolution of the tumor or tumor treatment. The complications caused by the evolution of the tumor arise: through loco-regional invasion (obstructive syndromes, compression syndromes, hemorrhages), through metastasis (pathologic fractures, epidural spinal cord compression, intracranial hypertension), through substances produced by tumor (tumor lysis syndrome, hyperviscosity from multiple myeloma, diabetes insipidus from small cell lung cancer). Several complications occur due to specific oncologic treatment: surgical treatment (hemorrhages, anastomotic failure), side effects from chemotherapy agents (pancytopenia, acute renal failure), and radiotherapy (hemorrhagic cystitis, actinic dermatitis, esotracheal fistula). Emergency settings require medical and symptomatic treatment, psychotherapy conducted by the treating oncologist. |
