Rezumat

The current pandemic crisis has brought back into force the reevaluation and analysis of the concepts, ideologies and mechanisms in which the individual and contemporary society operate. In this text we analyze both phenomena and concepts already present and debated, through which we try to explain some of the directions and manifestations of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Thus, we highlight a deep crisis of governance (both in democratic and authoritarian societies), which is based on breaking with the reality in which we operate and contemporary electoral processes. On the other hand, a rapid acceleration of the relativization of truth and distrust of conclusions, recommendations and the current scientific product. There is a tendency to decentralize the epistemic authority over the truth, manifested by the desire to reduce the tension of social dialogue on everyday facts. This desire comes from the misperception that if there are nuances of interpretation of the facts, or that the scientific truth is in a continuous complement, it would also imply the existence of several truths. Thus, a devolution of thought is desired, by removing the central authority of truth, which is facilitated especially by contemporary information processes and information consumption practices. Society tends to fragment and isolate itself epistemically, isolating itself in a personalized and deeply interpretable structure similar to that of the Plato’s Cave, manifested by adhering to the position of a pseudophilosopher king who becomes the individualized epistemic standard. It is much better to know with certainty a moderate number of things than a large number of things that may not be true. Recognition and misinformation can be costly, both in terms of lives and happiness, and in terms of the time spent trying to counteract things that didn't go the way I thought they would. True knowledge simplifies our lives, helping us to make choices that increase our happiness and time savings.
