Rezumat

The Fund 487 of the Archiwum Akt Nowych from Warsaw (the Central Ar-chives of the Modern Records), „Ambasada R.P. w Bukareszcie 1919-1939 [1940]” (The Embassy of the Polish Republic at Bucharest in 1919-1939 [1940]), contains several documents about the activity of the Polish Consulate at Chisinau, with in-formations about interwar Bessarabia. According to these documents, the functi-onaries from the Consulate paid a special attention to the economical life, new-papers review, education in Polish language and the spiritual assistance to the Ca-tholic believers. The folder nr. 71 contains informations about the production and trade from Bessarabia in 1923-1924, 1926-1927, 1929, 1930-1931. One of the re-ports signed by the Consul A. Świerbiński, concerning the economical situation of Bessarabia in 1927/28, was appreciated by the Interministerial Commision of Opi-nion from Warsaw, and edited in form of book in 1929. From the letters of the Vice-consul Ossoliński and Consuls Świerzbiński and Uzdowski, results an underlined interest for the economical advantages of the region. Important are the reports about the situation of the railway, grapes and wine production, trade with Poland which had specific tradition and interest on the Bessarabia’s market, the relations with the central authorities and vice versa. The press reports, not so much preserved, show the interest for the Russian language press from Chisinau and Cetatea Alba (former Akkerman), and especially for the antipolish propaganda which spread sometimes on the pages of that publi-cations. The most complicate, but also the most native, questions, for the functi-onaries of the Consulate from Chisinau, were the education in the Polish language and the spiritual support for the Poles who lived in Bessarabia. During the inter-war period at Chisinau existed a Polish school. In other places, as Soroka, Beltsy or Khotyn, the Polish classes or schools disappeared, in general from three reasons – the lack of funds, the complicated relationship with the Ministery of Education and the loss of the national identity which began during the Tsarist period. Interesting, but also sad, was the fate of the Polish Community from Khotyn which fought for its interests till the end of 1920s. The study is based on the documents from the folders 71, 314, 321, 323 and 327 of the fund 487, at the Central Archives of the Modern Records from Warsaw.
