This work is dedicated to the first Khotyn diocese which was created in the second half of the 18th century as a part of the Greek archdiocese of Proilavia when Khotyn county together with the ancient fortress were converted into the Turkish province, Pashalyk. In the short period of its existence, the newly-formed Khotyn diocese was ruled by the only archpastor His Grace Bishop Amfilohije, who was given the title "Khotyniul". Due to his scientific endeavors and teaching activi-ties, the name of this bishop is considered to be one of the most important in the history of the Romanian culture in the second half of the 18th century. |
