Rezumat

Nitric oxide has been implicated in many physiologic processes that influence both acute and long-term control of kidney function. They play an dominant role in the control of renal functions such as global and regional renal blood flow, renal autoregulation, glomerular filtration, renin secretion and excretion of salts. Nitric oxide is produced from L-arginine and oxygen in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS). There are three isoforms of NOS, endothelial (eNOS), neuronal (nNOS), and an inducible NOS isoform (iNOS) [1]. The three isoforms of NOS have been found to be expressed in kidneys.
