The specifics and clearly expressed zonality of soil and climatic conditions, as well as colorful composition of predecessors for winter wheat in the Republic of Moldova, cause the necessity to use in the production varieties of different ecotypes of this crop. Noticeable increases in instability and continentality of climate for last years also forcing plant breeders pay special attention to the creation of adaptive varieties with increased level of drought-heat resistance. At the Research Institute of Field Crops „Selectia” has been created for this period a number of zoned and promising varieties of soft winter wheat with a good level of these features: Meleag, Vestitor, Creator, Căpriana plus, Fenix, Numitor, Rod and others.
