The current study tries to make a synthesis of certain children’s art particularities narrated by Dimitrie Cantemir in his work “Description of Moldova”. Some scholars assign the first signs of children’s folklore to foreign authors. However, the information given by the Romanian researcher in the above-mentioned study is much older. Although these references are rather general, emphasizing primarily the ethnographic element rather than the musical one, they still are quite precious for science since they are offered by a competent author. D. Cantemir presents the children’s art in a complex way, remarking at the same time its social function, which allows us to have an accu-rate picture of the traditional culture of Moldova of the XVIIth-XVIIIth centuries. In addition, studying the artistic acts performed by children contains precious data that offer the possibility of not just finding out the humanity’s past but also to look in the direction of art’s genesis.
