Constructivism is a reflection of systematic scientific knowledge, with applica-tions to the challenges of learning, as cognitivism further research. Constructivist theory foun-dation lies in the doctrine of Jean Piaget on cognitive development, in stages of cognitive quali-ties. It emphasizes here the accommodation of essential processes of assimilation, as mani-festations of knowledge built over time. The building at the mental level of cognitive constructs is in its own way, individualized, depending on how one who is educated, select and transform information, makes assumptions, decisions, structure their knowledge and experiences. In the first part of the paper are highlighted the Constructivism roots and its evolution. We continue with the analysis of Constructivism as a theory which is based on observation and scientific study of how people are learning. Reporting this theory to traditional ideas about teaching and learning results in the appearance of the constructivist classroom, in which the focus tends to shift from teacher to pupils. Towards the end of the paper are outlined conclusions on the ability of Constructivism to develop thinking skills, promote intrinsic motivation for learning, and reinforces the idea to use alternative methods of evaluation. |
