The pears are very sensitive fruits, so damage on pear fruits caused during picking, manipulation, sorting and transportation has an important economic loss. Among six winter pear cultivars, Păstrăvioare and Curé were susceptible to fruit injury, while the Romanian ones Republica and Virgiliu Hibernal can be considered resistant to pricking, cutting and hitting of the fruits and can be used as genitors in pear breeding for created new cultivars with good resistance to fruit mechanical injuries. The heritability in broad sense shows that the resistance of pear fruits to damage has a strong genetic determinism, being powerfully influenced by genotype (less in case of cutting). The resistance of the fruits injured by pricking, cutting and hitting was close correlated, and improvement of these traits in pear breeding could be released simultaneously |
