The article studies problems of implementation of agricultural land conservation in Ukraine and possible directions for improvement of the existing mechanism of conservation of degraded and low-productive lands as an important constituent of sustainable development of land management. Method of social interviewing (questionnaire) was applied to determine attitude of landowners and land-users to the problem of agricultural land degradation and to define efficient tools to stimulate conservation of the agricultural lands. According to the interviewing results, the authors of the article make conclusions about the necessity to introduce flexible instruments for stimulation of land conservation. Particularly, it concerns purchase or exchange of a land parcel with degraded soils and indirect economic stimulation (tax privileges, release from land payment, credit privileges). It is also important to make environmental propaganda among rural population and give advisory services at the level of local authorities in the field of land protection and development of alternative kinds of activity on rural territory.
