Rezumat | ||||||
The famous poem by Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven, abounds in aural imagery, that is, alliteration, consonance, assonance, internal rhyme, and repetition. The sound devices used give the poem a faithful aural image and make the reader dive inside it. It has to be underlined that not all kinds of figurative language rely exclusively upon the pictures they create in the mind of readers; there are multifold devices which count on the effect they produce on the reader’s ear. Many writers use aural imagery in their works as a technique which allows them to achieve the greatest emotional and perceptive impact on the reader; Poe is one of them. The present article tackles in detail the pragmatic and linguistic aspects of translation and the challenges of translating prosodic features in the poem The Raven into the Romanian language. The study delineates the Romanian versions of The Raven proposed by Mihu Dragomir, Petre Solomon, and Ștefan Augustin Doinaș. |
