In this communication for the first time in the Gagauz studies the mythological image of a dwarf is considered, which is found in a number of texts of the Gagauz folk tale, as well as in the folk-colloquial speech of the Gagauz, the linguistic data of which are recorded in various dictionaries. Among the fairy-tale characters of this type are: a long-bearded old dwarf, a dwarf boy (Piperçu, Cücä Todur, Tuzluk çocuu, Pirku, etc.). In addition, in various dictionaries of the Gagauz language there are verbal formulas for denoting the tiny size of one or another character, for example: “arpa boyu” (“long as a barley grain”), “karış boylu [insan]” / “karış kadar boyu var” (“a man a span tall”).
