Active carbons are widely used in environmental protection for the purpose of cleaning of discharges and emissions from toxic mixtures. The cleaning efficiency of the process is often dependent on the distribution of pore size in the coal mass. The highest adsorption properties in activated carbons are microporous. The preparation of such activated carbons by thermal activation of carbonaceous materials associated difficulties. Thus the micropores are filled with tar and carbonaceous materials appears purification difficult. Deep oxidation of carbonaceous material with steam, carbon dioxide and oxygen leads to the destruction of the walls between the pores in the active carbon, and their exploittaion characteristics degrade. In this paper an attempt is made to activate the carbon radiation-chemical methods. Due to the high penetrating abilities of ionizing radiation it is possible to initiate a chemical reactions of gasification in the micropores of the carbonaceous material. When using high temperature at 400-500C initiated chain decomposition gum, released gases and open pores. As the raw carbonaceous material to obtain activated carbon used charcoal. After grinding it used pellets with sizes of 1-2 mm. Irradiation were conducted in a steam atmosphere at the temperature of 400C. The dose rate was 0.18 Gy/ s, absorbed dose-to 2.6 kGy. The kinetics of the change of the adsorption capacity on benzene have been studied. In the studied range of absorbed dose sorption capacity increases to 2 times. The change in temperature up to 500°C also stimulates the increase of sorption capacity. The temperature dependence obeys the Arrhenius law, which shows the flow of radiation-thermal processes in the porous structure of charcoal. The mechanism and kinetics regularities of the radiation-thermal reactions of gasification of tar in the coal mass are discussed. |
