Rezumat

Nowayday Green chemistry (or sustainable chemistry) is one of the most important new aspects of chemistry and has emerged as an important perspective of all chemistry including Polymer chemistry and Composites as well. Green Chemistry encourages the use of economical and eco-compatible techniques that not only improve the yield but also bring down the cost of disposal of wastes at the end of a chemical process. Since a couple of decades, a special attention has been brought to design and develop new practices and industrial processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of substances hazardous to human health and the environment. Therefore, an important aspect of advance green chemistry has been the design of chemical products being fully effective and having little or no toxicity. In fine producing things that have a positive impact on human prosperity and planetary sustainability. Based on my experience in research and manufacturing, we present some new processes which have been developed in order to fulfil the requirements of making safe, sustainable and non-polluting products with high efficiency and that consume minimum amounts of materials and energy while producing little or no waste material and having less or no impact on the environment. After discussing the atom economy related to some synthesis, we will present new routes of free-phosgene polycarbonates (PC), free-BPA epoxy reins (EPR) based on raw materials, AB type polybenzimidazole (PBI), PVC mass polymerization and the use of new non toxic additives v.z. (HFFR fire retardants, plasticizers) as well. Some recent works on Biodegradable thermoplastic elastomers based on hydroxyalkanoates will illustrate the advantage of ROP vs. Polycondensation reactions. Finally, two eco-friendly processes will be dicussed, one for microelectronic industry making PC or IC boards and the other concerning the use of vacuum bag for making laminate composites.
