In Romania, the incidence and pathology of heavy metal poisoning (Cu, Al, As, Cd, Cr, Mn, Hg, Ni, Pb) has diminished considerably due to the decrease both in ore extraction and in the processing industry. The purpose of our study is to highlight the changes in blood copper level in patients with chronic copper exposure due to faulty handling or long exposure and possible pathophysiological correlations with magnesium. Exposure to copper for a long time following human activities can lead to acute intoxication with a well-defined clinical and paraclinical picture. Increased blood copper levels also lead to an increased magnesium level, accentuating clinical symptoms. |
