The author touches upon one of the major social problems of mankind, the problem of tolerance. Analizing the interethnic relations in the society today she works out the criteria necessary for the development of future music teachers professional qualities. The article is based on the “Declaration of Principles of Tolerance” (Paris, 1995) and the author’s social research. Acknowledging the great role of Music in the development of people’s spiritual culture the author points out the fact that teachers of music should possess these qualities. The study of musical traditions of different ethnic groups may considerably contribute to the development of ethno-cultural tolerance.
