Due to the fact that English grammar has its own set of complicated rules it becomes a challenging task for the FSL students to learn and acquire some of its structures. In this connection English subordinate conjunctions may become a tough task for them to learn. Many problems associated with subordinate connectors are linked to the fact the same subordinator may have different functions and introduce several types of clauses. Such connectives can produce ambiguities because of the wide range of meanings they may have. The article is focused on the most ambiguous subordinate conjunctions and ways of their translation, paraphrase and substitution being efficient in clearing up their meaning in each case. As the focus is on linguistic form such methods as Cognitive and Grammar- Translation should be applied in teaching ambiguous connectors when training future translators. Both methods allow the students to acquire grammar in explicit way. |
