Rezumat

Ensuring financial stability represents a complex question that requires a detailed coordination of the efforts of a broad range of state institutions, including central banks, finance ministries, financial regulators and supervisors, deposit guarantee bodies, and so on. At the same time, it is important to emphasize the idea that central banks are those institutions, which traditionally play a particularly important role in ensuring financial stability. In the financial system of the Republic of Moldova, the functions of a financial intermediary are mainly executed by banks. Besides banks, the financial sector of the Republic of Moldova is also represented by insurance, leasing and microfinance companies. Regulatory and supervising banking functions are fulfilled by the National Bank of Moldova through the established methods and measures. Currently, the act of ensuring financial stability in the Republic of Moldova is mainly related to monitoring and maintaining the stability of the banking sector, which is a dominant part of the structure of the financial sector. Thus, the appropriate model for the Republic of Moldova would be the “central bank - macro-prudential regulator”, in which the central bank regulates the activity of all financial intermediaries.
