Rezumat

The study herein provides a contrastive perspective of the various ways in which the most frequent circumstantial relations – space and time – are diversely expressed in contemporary Romanian and Russian languages.  Both types of relations are attained in these languages by means of simple adverbial and nominal phrases or included in various prepositional groups, prepositional subordinate clauses, while the temporal relations can be made visible in gerundial constructions. The specifics of each language are also featured. The spatial relations can be thus attained via the supine mode, solely in Romanian. In a myriad of means of expression, the temporal relations can be also achieved in Russian by the grammar category of the verbal aspect, whereas Romanian will convey the same meaning by verbs in the non-finite forms, such as gerund, infinitive and participle, as well as through adjectival phrases.  Such a comparison is beneficial from both the perspective of theoretical linguistics but also from the factual context of teaching and studying the two languages at distinct levels.
