Mulţi exigeţi au semnalat faptul că secolul al XXI-lea a revoluţionat esenţial atât conţinutul, cât şi forma tuturor genurilor de artă. Această concepţie se referă şi la teatrul de păpuşi. Graţie îndrăzneţelor experimente la nivel de limbaj, concept artistic, tehnici şi materiale utilizate, teatrul de animaţie va ieşi din anonimat, anunţând o nouă estetică stilistică şi direcţie în evoluţia sa. În aspectul metamorfozelor de format şi limbaj s-au impus în special trupele (teatrele) independente. În multe ţări europene, majoritatea teatrelor de păpuşi sunt independente. Chiar de la începutul secolului al XIX-lea, domeniul este abordat de artişti consacraţi care văd în teatrul de păpuşi o artă cu posibilităţi de exprimare imprevizibile.  Secolul al XX-lea îşi aduce obolul la evoluţia genului prin teatrul avangardist şi teatrul de artă de păpuşi, contribuind la transformarea tehnicilor de mânuire a păpuşii şi a esteticii sale. În acest context, urme vizibile în teoria teatrului lasă Gordon Graig, George Grosz, Piscator şi mulţi alţii.  Noul secol incită tot mai mult artiştii teatrului de păpuşi. Cele mai semnificative experimente în domeniu pot fi urmărite în cadrul Festivalului internaţional de teatru de păpuşi pentru maturi „Lalka tez czlowiek” („Păpuşa este la fel om”), organizat de Teatrul Independent „The Impossible Theatre Union” din Varşovia. Many exigent researchers have signalled that the XXI century has revolutionized essentially both the content and the form of all genres of art. This concept also refers to the puppet theatre. Thanks to the bold experiments at the level of language, artistic concept, techniques and materials used, the animation theatre will come out of anonymity, announcing a new stylistic aesthetics and direction in its evolution. The independent troops (theatres) have imposed themselves in particular in terms of format and language metamorphoses. In many European countries, most puppet theatres are independent. From the very beginning of the XIX century, the field is approached by established artists, who see an art with possibilities of unpredictable expression in the puppet theatre.  The XX century brings its modest contribution to the evolution of the genre through the avant-garde theatre and the puppet art theatre, contributing to the transformation of the techniques of handling the doll and its aesthetics. In this context, Gordon Graig, George Grosz, Piscator and many others leave visible traces in theatre theory.  The new century instigates the artists of the puppet theatre more and more. The most significant experiments in the field could be seen at the International Festival of Puppet Theatres for adults ”Lalka tez czlowiek” (”A Puppet is a human too”), organized by the independent theatre ”The Impossible Theatre Union” from Warsaw. Some performances presented during this festival served as basis of the analyses in the article.
