Rezumat

The majority of studies assess the traumas as the main causes of deaths in opulation under 50 years old, with polytraumas representing 20-25% of total trauma cases. The average age of patients with polytrauma is 34 years old, with 80% of the cases occurring in road accidents, including 60% taking placed in the evenings and at nights, hence the need for medical care delivery mostly by night shift services. The objective of the paper is two-fold: the selection of most suitable methods of etermining the polytrauma severity based on the comparative analysis of using the GCS, APACHE II, ISS Scores, as determining the effectiveness of using these in hospital care. The ISS, APACHE II, GCS scores are objective criteria for assessing the severity of polytrauma and contribute to improving the therapy decisions, and of the quality of care offered to this group of patients. In objectively evaluating the polytrauma severity, forecasting the infectious complications, the mortality (p<0.001), as well as in improving the therapy protocols, the Injury Severity Score (ISS) is a predictive criterion, which is more efficient in conditions of intensive care services as compared to the GCS and APACHE II Scores. The APACHE II and GCS Scores may be used for the objective evaluation of the severity of polytrauma and forecasting the lethality during the first 72 hours of hospital care treatment.
