Rezumat

Mistero Buffo signifies for Dario Fo a real possibility of rediscovery of people’s historical past, in its battles, in the expression of the “other” culture, a creativity based on „other” values. In Epic Theatre and Giullare Medieval Art, Dario Fo depicts the feelings, hatred and hopes of an entire community. The drama is performed, mimed and narrated by Fo himself. He uses the unique theatrical expressive means. The performance is always preceded by an introduction which explains the historical past, to the intentionally hidden facts. The relation with Brecht’s epic theatre is obvious, but Fo’s epic character comes from popular tradition. The discourse from Mistero Buffo about the culture of the oppressed classes of the Middle Ages is a beginning of a wider and more rigorous dramatic search, in which Dario Fo will know how to connect the past and the present, the labor and the peasant cultures.
