Rezumat

More than 7 thousand languages are spoken in the world. Languages that are not the language of education and communication and whose number of speakers is decreasing are dying one by one. In a work titled Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger, UNESCO added Gagauz to the list of “endangered languages” and placed it in the “definitely endangered” group. In this paper, it will be explained whether the Gagauz language will die at the end of the 21st century. Gagauz language has positive and negative aspects. It is certain that the language of the Gagauz people living in countries other than Moldova and Ukraine will not survive until the end of this century. There is a possibility that the language of the Gagauz people living in Ukraine may also die. However, it is difficult to say the same for the languages of the people living in Gagauzia in Moldova. Because Gagauz people live collectively in Moldova. They have an autonomous state. Native language lessons are taught in every class in schools. There is a television channel and radio broadcasting in the native language. There is an increase in the number of published books. They also projects related to the mother tongue. Gagauz language is being researched at booth Comrat State University and Mariya Marunevich Gagauz Research Center. In addition to these positive situations, the weak points of Gagauz language are the people’s preference for Russian, which is a more prestigious language, and the decrease in the population due to migration to other countries due to the weak economy. In this paper, it will be explained whether the Gagauz language will die at the end of the 21st century.
