Antenatal monitoring is a program that has a certain content and objectives, with a specific algorithm that leads to the result you search for – the delivery of an alive and healthy child, maintaining mother’s health also. In this study we used a questionnaire for postpartum women, which contained general and special questions. There were 299 women involved in the study, who were monitored during pregnancy, in almost all regions of the Republic of Moldova. The obtained data was analyzed with SPSS Statistics V23. The results were presented in figures, tables and representative schemes. The first visit to the family doctor in 260 cases (90.9%) was immediately after the pregnancy was diagnosed and only 0.7% of the pregnant women never visited the family doctor. We found that the 7 recomended visits to the family doctor were performed in 52.4% cases. All women visited the family doctor at least 3 times during pregnancy, except for 2 cases. We established that more pregnant women (80.4%) residing in the urban area attended all 7 visits recommended to the family doctor, compared to women from the rural area, where the full presence was only about 63.7% . The women with high grade education complied with the stipulations of the program in 83.2%, and the non-educated ones - only in 20.2% cases. The primiparians made all the necessary visits to the doctor during pregnancy in 74.6% of cases. About 96.9% of pregnant women were informed about the need for HIV testing. Blood pressure was measured in 74.3% of cases. The body mass index in pregnant women at the first visit was calculated in 79.3%. Screening of the antenatal growth of the fetus, performed by measuring the height of the uterine fundus at each visit was performed in 64.0% only. The results of pregnancy and childbirth depend largely on the quality of prenatal observation. Antenatal care an counseling are of particular importance in preventing complications at birth. Thus, adherence to antenatal surveillance standards of pregnancy is an important factor for a successful birth.
