The article examines the possibilities of applying the generational theory in the process of communication in the local self-government system. The conditions of decentralization and development of communities in Ukraine are analyzed, the important role of effective communication between the authorities and the public on the level of local self-government is highlighted. In this context, the main provisions of the generational theory are considered, and the main characteristics of age groups within the framework of this theory are described. On this basis, proposals for improving the effectiveness of communication in the local selfgovernment system are presented, taking into account the orientation on the characteristics of each group among the inhabitants of the community.
