Rezumat

This paper aims to analyze the capacity, opportunity and need for digitalization of a group of small and medium-sized firms in Romania in order to increase their economic and financial performance. For this purpose, a target group of more than 50 firms was chosen, which expressed their willingness and desire to participate in this study and then, through a program, to increase their level of digitalization. The economic and financial analysis was necessary to demonstrate the firms' ability to cope with investments in digital technology but also to assess the risks to which firms are subject prior to the implementation of this technology. At the same time, it was also aimed at identifying the sectors and activities that are lacking and that need to be boosted by digitisation in order to increase firms' performance. The second analysis looked at the visibility of firms in the online environment and their level of development in terms of the use of digital technologies to enable them to operate better and access market information. The analysis sought to highlight the extent to which firms have benefited from the opportunities offered by virtual shops and social networks with increased impact on potential customers. Another line of analysis focused on the information provided in the virtual environment to users about the economic and financial history of firms in order to ensure their decision-making transparency.
