This paper examines the genre of a fairy tale in the literary work of the Gagauz writer Stepan Bulgar on the material of the collection “Dev adamın oolu” (“Son of a giant”). The tales of this collection have their own specifics in comparison with other tales of the author: they are full of fantasy elements, as well as mythological content, which is associated with the pre-Balkan history of the ancestors of the Gagauz and with their pagan beliefs. Judging by the plots, by the system of characters, by the poetics and style of the texts of fairy tales presented in the collection, one can state the fact that they are written based on folk tales found in the V. A. Moshkov’s folklore collection "The Dialects of the Bessarabian Gagauz". The author's contribution of the writer lies in the fact that he creatively approached these fairy tales, not only by making a literary processing of texts, but also by uniting narratives different in plot by a protagonist, the son of a giant.
