Rezumat

The hitherto unknown trinuclear iron(III)-cyanoacetic acid complex of the composition [Fe3O(CNCH2COO)6(H2O) 3]NO3·5H2O was studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystals are orthorhombic and have the following unit cell parameters: a - 25.373(5), b - 15.148(3), c - 18.292(4) Å, Z=8, space group Pbca. The crystal structure is composed of the trinuclear [Fe3O(CNCH2COO)6(H2O) 3]+ cations, NO3- anions, and molecules of water of crystallization. The compound was studied by Mössbauer and IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and magnetochemistry. The complex contains high-spin Fe3+ ions coupled to one another by an exchange interaction of the antiferromagnetic type. A comparative analysis of the Mössbauer parameters indicates that the electric field gradient in the vicinity of the Mössbauer nucleus depends on the nature of the R group in the RCH2 radical of the carboxylate ion
