Introduction. Most cases of liver dysfunction are diagnosed during routine examinations, when elevated liver aminotransferases are observed. The objective of the study was to analyse the liver dysfunction in patients with gout, in different age groups. Material and methods. A descriptive, selective study was performed in 237 patients with gout. The mean age of male patients was 60±8.0 years, while the mean age of female patients was 63 ± 9.0 years. The diagnosis of gout was established according to the American College of Rheumatology and European League Against Rheumatism 2015 criteria. The patients were separated in two groups, depending on the age at gout onset: the age of onset £59 years (group I, 91 patients) and the age of onset ³⁶⁰ years (group II, 146 patients). The raw data was processed in SPSS version 26.0. Results. The combination of the presence of tophi and elevation of liver enzymes was encountered in 17 patients (23.9%). In 10 patients (14.1%), gout was accompanied by an increase in gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT), alanine aminotransferase (ALAT) and aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT). In 7 patients, only GGT elevation was detected and in 6 patients only ALAT elevation. In 4 patients (5.6%), an elevation of ALAT, ASAT, GGT and alkaline phosphatase was determined. Other changes appeared with a frequency of less than 5%. Conclusions. Patients with gout may present with liver dysfunction, that should be carefully diagnosed and treated.
