Rezumat

The differences between American and British English can be a point of contention both in and outside of the classroom. Nuances in the way citizens of the United States and Britons utilize the English language range from pronunciation to punctuation, grammar, slang, spelling and vocabulary. Although we celebrate various versions of English, i.e. Indian, Australian, Canadian, Ireland English, etc., this article will discuss some nuances between American English (AE) and British English (BE) from the perspective of a native English speaker from the United States (U.S.). The opinions and talking points are based on my experiences from living and teaching English in Moldova for five years, attending Central European University (representing 118 countries from 2018-2019), as well as discussions with British friends and colleagues.
