The comparative analysis of the research results carried out by CSPS/ICJPS in 2020 and 2021, through in-depth interviews and questionnaires, indicates a relative decrease in the perception of “horizontal” cohesion and solidarity (between members of communities and society) in the Republic of Moldova during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021). These results are consistent with the literature review regarding the various components of social cohesion and social capital during the pandemic (2020-2022). At the same time, the results of the questionnaire survey attest to a relative increase in trust in government institutions and in satisfaction with the management of the pandemic by state institutions. This finding suggests an increase in the perception of “vertical” cohesion (between citizens and institutions) in Moldova during the same period. According to the researchers, this result is determined by a conjunctural effect, namely the change of the political class in the summer of 2021. |
