Background. Dental impactation is a dental eruption abnormality in which the tooth cannot erupt due to the influence of loco-regional, general and genetic factors. The maxillary canine frequently occurring in impaction (2-3 % of the population) is considered one of the most important permanent tooth taking into consideration esthetics and function can cause migration or pathological root resorption of adjacent teeth, dentigerous cyst formation, shortening the length of the dental arch, which requires the intervention of surgical-orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study. Analysis of diagnostic methods and the type of treatment implemented in dental inclusion depending on the time of detection of the eruption anomaly. Material and methods. The study included 10 patients diagnosed with malocclusions associated with impacted canines, aged between 9-21 years. For the purpose of this study, the following diagnostic methods were used: photostatic exam, biometric analysis of study models, roentgen examinations including orthopantomography, profile teleradiography and CT scan. Results. Based on the treatment protocol and paraclinical methods of x-ray imaging, the included tooth was identified and its position in the bone tissue, the degree of inclination, the longitudinal axis, the shape of the crown and the root of the tooth. The type of orthodontic treatment depends on age of the patient at the time of referral, so interceptive treatment is used in mixed dentition, and in permanent dentition, curative treatment involves the use of fixed adhesive technique, in association with surgical procedure of tooth exposure. Conclusions. The results of the clinical, biometric, and radiological study denote the effectiveness of the combined orthodontic-surgical treatment of impacted canine by using fixed adhesive technique and surgical procedure of tooth exposure in permanent dentition. |
