Background. Ureteral polyps have one of the rare causes of obstruction of the pyelo-ureteral junction in children, which is associated with hydronephrosis. Early diagnosis and timely decision in favor of surgical treatment allows preservation of renal function. Objective of the study. Clinical and paraclinical evidence of rare cases of hydronephrosis in children, on the edge of a clinical case. Material and Methods. According to a questionnaire, we evaluated a patient diagnosed with hydronephrosis by ultrasonography, intravenous urography, and renal scintigraphy. Results. The male patient, aged 5 years, hospitalized in the Urology Department with complaints of intermittent abdominal pain, dilation of the right renal pelvis at the ultrasonographic examination. He was examined by ultrasonography, intravenous urography, scintigraphy, and obstructive hydronephrosis was detected. The patient was surgically resolved. Intraoperatively, the cause of obstruction of the pyelo-ureteral junction was established the fibroepithelial polyp. It was performed the block resection of the pyelo-ureteral junction and the polyp, followed by Andersen-Hynes pyeloureteral plasty. The postoperative evolution was favorable. The patient was discharged on the 13th day postoperatively. Conclusions. Fibroepithelial polyps are a rare but important cause of pyelo-ureteral obstruction and should be considered in children with intermittent abdominal pain syndrome and hydronephrosis. Surgical treatment presents the method of choice in this pathology. |
