Background. Chronic dacryocystitis is a common pathology in otolaryngology and ophthalmology that affects up to 85% of able-bodied people and is often due to endonasal anatomical features. Endoscopic dacryocistorinostomy (EDCR) is a modern, minimally invasive method with a short duration of intervention and rapid rehabilitation. Objective of the study. To elucidate the advantages of laser use in EDCR and to elaborate therapeutic and surgical tactics with increased effectiveness for restoring tear flow and maintaining the result. Material and Methods. The study included patients with chronic dacryocystitis who received treatment in the ophthalmology department without lasting results. Each patient underwent computed tomography showing the level of blockage in the tear drainage system and the endonasal anatomical features that require correction. Patients underwent laser EDCR for the restoration of the tear drainage path, simultaneous correction of the anatomical structures and the dilation of the lower tear point with the cannula. Results. It has been observed that laser EDCR is a well-tolerated treatment option, with faster rehabilitation compared to external tearduct permeabilization, with better results and increased patient satisfaction. Conclusion. Endoscopic endonasal dacryocistorinostomy is a minimally invasive, highperformance operation that allows one-stage correction of concomitant ENT pathologies and can be implemented in the clinical practice of the ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology department. |
