Background. Gill cysts (GC) of the neck are rare birth defects resulting from abnormal embryonic development of the cervical region. Objective of the study. Studying the evolution, clinic, diagnostic methods, and peculiarities of surgical treatment of a rare congenital pathology. Material and Methods. Clinical case presentation. Anamnestic, objective, clinical and paraclinical data, literature on similar cases were evaluated. Results. 59-year-old woman, hospitalized in the ENT department with allegations of aesthetic discomfort, left laterocervical swelling, dysphagia, dysphonia, dyspnea, unpleasant taste, in progression of 20 years, objective: tumor formation, about 8x6 cm, at the anterior edge of the left sternocleidomastoid muscle, fluctuating on palpation, imprecisely delimited, fixed to the deep planes, oropharyngoscopic is pink, covers the mucous membrane of the cheek, amygdala lodge, soft palate on the left, diagnosis confirmed by computed tomography of the cervical region. Lateral cervicotomy was performed, with orotracheal intubation, large size and the location of the cyst required intraoperative removal through the oral cavity, the operation ended with drainage and suturing in anatomical planes, soft palate, histopathological examination. The postoperative evolution was favorable, the drainage tube was suppressed on the 3rd day, and the patient was discharged on the 14th day. Monitored for 6 months. Complete recovery, no recurrence. Conclusions. GC is a benign congenital cystic tumor, treatment is surgical and involves complete excision of the cyst to prevent recurrence or subsequent infectious / inflammatory episodes. |
