Background. Occurrence of head trauma among children increases almost double speaking about school aged patients. Thus, secondary visual deficiencies misdiagnose impact a future development as an adult. Objective of the study. Determine and evaluate visual disturbances after head trauma in school aged children. Material and Methods. A case-control research has been undergone among 48 inpatients diagnosed with head trauma and secondary visual disturbances. An adjustable ophthalmologic examination procedure has been applied. Results. Among researched group have been determined a transient alteration of visual acuity in about 83.7% cases (40 patients). Autorefractometry revealed a slight hypermetropia in 18.4-32.7% patients, and 4.1%-8.2% cases a slight myopia. During visual field exam decreased fixation with scattered scotomas have been revealed in 89.8% patients. Contrast sensibility has been altered in 94% patients. Conclusion. The research revealed the transient character and the frequency of visual disturbances after head trauma in school aged children, that improved in 4-6 months. Visual field exam along with visual potentials screening allowed an early diagnose for traumatic optic neuropathy. |
