Rezumat

Introduction: to assess the effectiveness of complex treatment using ozone in patients with COPD and associated ischemic heart disease. Material and methods: The study included 38 patients with stage II COPD associated with angina pectoris FC II, aged 40-70 years. The main disease duration ranged between 5-40 years with an average duration of 10.3 ± 5.3 years. All patients were randomized into 2 groups: group I (main group, n=18), were administered courses of ozone, additionally to the basic treatment; group II (control group, n=20) received only basic treatment. Ozone therapy procedures were performed daily over 10-12 days. Results: Correlation analysis of the results obtained while applying standard treatment completed with ozone therapy showed marked decrease in the intensity of cough (r = 0.41), significant decrease in the occurrence of dyspnea during easy or medium exercise (r = 0.49), lower number of patients with rales in lungs (r = 0.33). In patients with COPD and associated ischemic coronary artery disease (CAD) who received ozone therapy, 87.3% decrease in angina episodes per week, decrease of nitroglycerin consumption to 0-1 tablets per day, decrease of the subjective sensation of shortness of breath, of palpitations and cardiac rhythm disturbances. There has also been noticed that in patients who administered ozone the normalization of the laboratory indices occurred faster by 4.6 ± 0.3 days, C-reactive protein – 4.5 ± 0,2 days and fibrinogen – 3.8 ± 0.18 days in comparison with the same data in patients who received only the standard treatment. Conclusions: We can conclude that the inclusion of ozone procedures in the complex of medical measures taken to treat exacerbations of COPD associated with FC II angina pectoris improves the overall efficiency of therapy, manifests a high tolerance and safety which are certain arguments for using this method as ancillary therapy in exacerbations of the disease.
