Purpose. Prostate sclerosis is among the final stages of the chronic inflammatory process of the prostate (chronic prostatitis). This stage is usually characterized by a decreased activity of the inflammatory process, whereas the gland is largely replaced by scar connective tissue. In some patients, prostate sclerosis might cause bladder outlet obstruction. The treatment of prostate sclerosis is a significant issue of modern urology since it is widely occurring especially in older and senile men. Materials and methods. Study included 66 patients with urinary disorders, referred to and treated within the urology department of „Timofei Mosneaga" Republican Clinical Hospital. Inclusion criteria referred to the patients who were clinically and paraclinically confirmed to suffer from infravesical outflow obstruction, caused by chronic nonbacterial prostatitis and sclerotic changes of the prostate. Results. The obtained treatment outcomes showed improvement in International Prostate Symptom Score index (IPSS), the quality of life index (QoL) and uroflowmetry parameters, being assessed before and over 3 and 6 months after the surgical intervention. Conclusions. Ho:YAG laser resection of the prostate is a rapid, harmless and promising procedure for prostate sclerosis, including the recurrent one, being used for treatment of infravesical outflow obstruction, which has also proven satisfactory clinical outcomes. |
