Rezumat

In the age of globalization and mobility when there are many exchange programs both for students and University staff (DAAD, ERASMUS MUNDUS etc.) teaching intercultural communication has become an important issue of modern curriculum that comes to help people to break all the stereotypes and to overcome misunderstanding while dealing with foreigners. This work explores the skills, the techniques and the exercises that can be applied while teaching English in order to provide students with valuable information regarding some country’s culture. A study of different cultures and civilization will lead to a successful intercultural communication devoid of embarrassing situations. Teaching intercultural communication can be regarded as teaching one how to overcome communication barriers. Along with a rather high level of knowledge of the foreign languages, the ability to interpret correctly foreigners’ behavior and words , to accept the diversity of cultures, a successful intercultural communication means as well a proper behavior(skills of perception), mutual understanding(communicative skills), the establishment of a professional interaction. This article highlights the importance of teaching communication in a foreign language based on certain models of intercultural communication.
