On the history of archaeological research in Budjak. The systematic archaeological research in the Southern region of the Republic of Moldova, a part of historical region called Budjak, started after the end of the World War II. During 1962-1969, the archaeological excavations were carried out on the settlement Vulcanesti II. The excavations revealed vestiges of five adobe dwellings, as well as two in-depth dugouts. A variety of pottery and inventory of the GumelnitaKaranovo culture dated back to the end of IV millennium BC were collected. In 1960, the archaeological complexes of Late Bronze Age dated back to XII-XI centuries BC, and of the Roman time dated back to III-IV centuries were discovered in the multilayered archaeological monument Comrat-I, as well as the Late Middle Age ground burial complex of XVI-XVII centuries.
