As it is known, despite modern development of mass-media, their variety and constantly growing availability, the youth receives primary knowledge of history and culture of this or that country in systematized kind from history textbooks, at first both from school, and then from university.
In the explanatory note to the program of 1998 for general educational institutions of Ukraine's history and world history for 5 – 11 classes among three priorities in history teaching at high school the accent was put (except for the study of Ukrainian history and XX-th century history) on the importance of „studying of the history of neighboring countries and states that had historically conditioned ties with Ukraine‖. Romania and Moldova, as it is known, refer to such countries. We have tried to analyze the Ukrainian textbooks of history dated to 1991 – 2004's (before the events of the so-called „orange revolution‖ which resulted in the politicization of history education as well as the content of the textbooks, which had just an indecent character).
According to the people who are responsible for carrying out the education policy in the European Union, that is those who are involved in teaching or dissemination of historical knowledge should be aware of the enormous social responsibility they carry. The history is a powerful tool of unification and dissociation of people, making them friends or enemies, in order to promote social harmony, or, conversely, to create chaos. |
