In this paper, we want to see how (by what means and practices) the symbolic power of French acted and imposed itself in Romania during the communist regime. This language had been the support of long-term Francophony and Francophilia that frightened the regime (since it came to power, in 1946, and till it came to an end, in 1989); the system censored it, sometimes punishing too brutally those who betrayed their allegiance to the French language and culture. We will work here with the concepts of social representations and linguistic imaginary.

Ne propunem să urmărim modalităţile şi practicile prin care se manifesta şi acţiona în România, în perioada comunistă, puterea simbolică a limbii franceze, limbă-suport al unei francofonii şi francofilii cu tradiţie îndelungată în acest spaţiu, de care regimul comunist s-a temut atît de tare (de la instalarea sa în 1946 şi pînă la sfîrşit, în 1989) încît a cenzurat-o, pedepsind de multe ori cu brutalitate pe toţi cei care îşi trădau adeziunea faţă de limba şi de culura franceză. La nivelul analizei, ne vom folosi de conceptele de reprezentare socială şi de imaginar lingvistic.
