In the Middle Age, the Chișinău city experienced an oscillating civilizational evolution with several stagesc of ascent and decline. In this sense, we may divide the medieval history of Chișinău in theree distinct cultural and chronological segments: a) a Tatar-Mongol city (XIVth century), b) a depopulated land and Moldovan village (the end XIVth century – middle of the XVIIth century), c) Moldovan city (middle of the XVIIth century – early XIXth century). The-refore, we will look, exclusively, at the Tatar-Mongol period and the Chișinău’s city history.
