Rezumat

The article examines the representation of the imperial and ecclesiastical authorities in Byzantium in the seventh century as interpreted by Maximus the Confessor. An overview of the imperial dress and insignia and the most important priestly attributes is given. The author concludes that the views of Maximus the Confessor are based on the concept of the divine origin of power prevailing in Byzantine political theory. For both emperors and priests, he focuses on clothing and attributes that emphasize their correlation with the prototype – Jesus Christ.
