In 1917, after the bourgeois revolution in Russia and as a result of World War I, Bessarabia declared its autonomy from the Russian Empire. After Sfatul Tzarii, the supreme legislative structure, was constituted, the executive organ was created. In it was formed, along with other Directorates, The Directorate for Military and Maritime Issues, which had authority over the territory’s military units and solved the military issues linked with the presence of Russian soldiers in the space between Nistru and Prut and the World War I front. The article exposes this military executive organ’s activity, the orders it issued for solving the anarchy problems in Bessarabia and the setting up of a new National Army of the Democratic Moldavian Republic. |
