After a big defeat with Germany troops in 1916 the Romanian government asked France to send a mission to assist the Romanian army. The French military mission was led by General Berthelot arriving in October 1916 in Romania and between January and June 1917 he supervised the reorganization and the retraining of the Romanian Army. The French General was appreciated by Romanian politicians, Romanian generals, and common peoples. Queen Mary seen only Berthelot who can save the Romanian army for defeat. General Alexander Averescu came into open conflict with the French general because it interfered with the internal affairs of the army. However he was an acclaimed personality in Romania. |
