Background. Allergic rhinitis is frequently ignored, underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed and mistreated, damaging health and inducing social and direct costs of treatment. A significant number of patients with allergic rhinitis are self-treating or referred to a pharmacist. Objective of the study. Assessing the role of the pharmacist in the management of allergic rhinitis in community pharmacies. Material and Methods. A selective cross-sectional research was conducted, the sociological survey using the semi-structured questionnaire, with a sample volume of 102 participants. The selection of static units was made among pharmacists from community pharmacies in the Republic of Moldova. Results. The role of the pharmacist in the management of allergic rhinitis has been established, 56.9% of pharmacists release 5-10 antiallergic drugs daily, 90.19% being dispensed without a prescription, 92.2% refuse to release antiallergics, claiming that the responsibility for medication is the indirect obligation of pharmacist (79.6%) or that medication monitoring is a physician's obligation. The main barriers to the release of antiallergics were: non-compliance with the administration of antihistamines (82.4%); ambiguity in the professional role of pharmacists in the release of these drugs (68.6%), lack of scientific evidence on antihistamines (54.9%). Conclusion. The role of the pharmacist was revealed, as well as the difficulties that appear in the activity of pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical assistance to consumers of antiallergic drugs. |
