Background. Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome is defined as urinary urgency, frequent urination and nocturnal with or without emergency urinary incontinence, which affects the quality of life and female sexuality. Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) - desire disorder, arousal, orgasm and pain. Objective of the study. Assessment the impact of OAB symptoms on female sexual life. Material and Methods. A pilot study was performed in 64 women, divided into 2 groups: 32 healthy women (control group) and 32 women with clinical diagnosis of OAB. To assess the severity of symptoms and quality of life in OAB, validated questionnaires translated into romanian were used: ICIQ-UISF, OABSS, OABq-SF, and sexual function assessed on the basis of FSFI. Results. OAB symptoms in women over 35 years, have a prevalence of about 19-49%. Most patients included in the study had severe clinical manifestations of OAB (36.5%). About 68% of women with urinary incontinence reported a negative impact on sexual intercourse. FSD was present in 53.8% of cases at all patients with OAB syndrome and is much more common in incontinent women (47%) than in the healthy control group (22%). Among the subdomains of the OABSS questionnaire, the urinary and nocturnal urgency score are directly correlated with FSD, having a negative effect on both the quality of life and sex life in women. Conclusion. Female sexual dysfunction is a common problem among women with overactive bladder, which significantly affects sexual health and quality of life, especially among sexually active women, aged 26-35 years. |
