Background. Despite a wealth of evidence, in comparison to other systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) autoantibodies, anti-RibP has not been included in classification criteria for SLE and its role as a biomarker still remains unclear. Objective of the study. to investigate the clinical and serological associations of anti-ribosomal P protein antibodies (anti-Rib-P) in patients with SLE. Material and Methods. All relevant literature, published until 31 May 2021, was retrieved from PubMed, Oxford academic, springer link, science direct, NCBI and ResearchGate restricted to the English language. The search strategies contained subject headings and keywords for ‘lupus’, ‘SLE’ or ‘systemic lupus erythematosus’, combined with ‘autoantibodies to ribosomal P', ‘anti-ribosomal P0', ‘anti-ribosomal P antibody Results. Out of 129 articles that were found using the database, the most relevant ones were 38 original articles. Anti-P is directed to 3 phosphoproteins (P0, P1, and P2), which are located on the 60S subunit of eukaryotic ribosome. The positive rate of anti-P in SLE ranged from 10% to 40%, among which the Asian population is the highest. A number of 30 studies supported the association between SLE and anti-p antibodies as higher rate of neurological lupus, lupus nephritis and hepatitis. Malar rash, oral ulcer and photosensitivity were strongly associated with serum anti-P antibody, with OR (95% CI) values of 2.05 (1.42–2.92), 1.49 (1.05–2.13) and 1.44 (1.08–1.91). There were 7 studies tha Conclusion. Anti-Rib-P antibody was significantly associated with malar rash, oral ulcer, photosensitivity and may be potentially associated with neurological lupus, hepatic damage and lupus nephritis |
