Background. Proteasome is the cellular component involved in misfolded protein degradation and normal protein recycling for mutual amino acids stock enrichment. Knowledge of proteasome functions can clarify its involvement in XXI century disease occurrence. Objective of the study. Magnification of scientific interest towards proteasome for in-depth studies of its activity in normal and abnormal state. Material and Methods. Scientific articles from medical magazines. Schematic models of proteasome structure were gathered to be visualized. Liu et al., 2003 experiment on proteasome’s endoproteolytic activity was described. The literature presenting proteasome functions was studied and organized. Results. Data regarding proteasome’s structure and functions was presented in an organized way. Liu et al., 2003 experiment result was presented and it demonstrated proteasome’s endoproteolytic activity. Idea of proteasome involvement in precursor activation and misfolded protein restoration was led by the experiment. Bortezomib- a proteasome inhibitor used for multiple myeloma treatment was described. Mechanism of processing and cleavage of normal and misfolded proteins was described and graphically represented. Conclusion. Proteasome’s significance in evolvement of cancer and Alzheimer disease was confirmed. |
